Virginia Lottery
Compared to some other state lotteries, the Virginia Lottery is fairly young, having only started on September 20, 1988. But just eight years later, Virginia became one of the first US states to offer the Mega Millions game, at the time it was called The Big Game.
Today, the VA lottery offers 4 state-only games Cash 5, Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5, and CASH POP among others. The Virginia Cash 5 features jackpots of $100,000 and you only need five winning numbers to claim the prize. There are also scratcher and fast play games available that can and do create big winners.
Back in 1999, the state lottery pledged to donate 100% of its profits to public education. To date, it’s donated over $7 billion to state schools. Mega Millions and Powerball are popular with Virginia players, too, having provided many players with big jackpots over the years.
The lottery endured controversy in 2008 when hundreds of players thought they’d won prizes in the Fast Play Super 7’s game. Sadly, the wins were the result of a computer glitch and were voided.
