New Mexico Lottery
The New Mexico Lottery began on April 5, 1996, and the first tickets were sold just a few weeks later on April 27, 1996. By the end of the state’s first fiscal year, the New Mexico lottery had sold more than $28 million worth of tickets, making over $6 million in profits.
Just one year later, Powerball tickets went on sale in the state and the state’s own lottery game called Roadrunner Cash held its first draw in February 1998. In 2010, the state joined Mega Millions and in June that year, Mexico Lottery in conjunction with KISS produced the world’s very first KISS scratcher game.
New Mexico lottery ticket sales go towards funds for Legislative Lottery Scholarships. To date, more than 90,000 students have had the opportunity to attend state colleges and universities.
New Mexico lottery prizes of $600 or less may be redeemed by mail or visiting an authorized retailer. Prizes between $601 and $99,999 must be claimed at lottery HQ in Albuquerque.
