Montana Lottery
The first Montana Lottery tickets were sold in June 1987. The tickets were for a scratch game that went by the name of Pot of Gold, and they were sold at over a thousand retailers around the state. Just two years later, Montana Lottery fans got a taste for big-time jackpots as Lotto America tickets were offered from 1989. Later, Lotto America was replaced by Powerball, with ticket sales in the first week doubling the amount predicted. In 1990, the Montana Lottery celebrated its first Lotto America winner who walked away with a $1.3 million jackpot.
Besides the Powerball, the state also sells lottery tickets for Mega Millions and Big Sky Bonus. To date, this state has 4 multi-state lotteries.
The new games do the trick, though. In 2010, one Montana resident won the $48 million Powerball jackpot. In May 2011, a resident called Robert Stayton won a Montana Lottery jackpot of $10,000 from a scratch-off game. At the time, Stayton has two warrants out for his arrest and owed more than $60,000 in child support!
