Maryland Lottery
The Maryland Lottery was introduced in 1973 and today offers six single-state games, along with multi-state lotteries such as Powerball, Cash4Life, and Mega Millions. In September 1996, the state became the first in the country to offer the Mega Millions lottery and the semi-weekly game still rewards Maryland lottery winners with mega jackpots. Powerball became available a few years later in 2010, following an agreement between the Multi-State Lottery Association and Maryland.
In that same year, almost $2 billion was spent on the Maryland lottery. $510 million was allocated to state-funded programs, including safety, the environment, education, and public health. What’s more, over $1 billion has been awarded to Maryland lottery players, with $63 million awarded to Mega Million ticket winners.
Local lotteries on offer in Maryland include Bonus Match 5, Multi-Match, Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5. These games offer a variety of jackpots sometimes reaching $1 million for lucky ticket holders.
