Florida Lottery
The Florida Lottery began in 1986 when voters authorized it through a constitutional amendment. The aim was to use lottery proceeds to invest in the state’s public education system. The very first Florida Lottery Game was called MILLIONAIRE and it was a $1 scratch card game. More than $95 million worth of tickets were sold, setting a lottery industry record. The game was such a big hit that in less than 2 weeks, the Florida Lottery could repay the original startup funding that it borrowed from the state’s General Revenue.
Since its inception, this lottery has continued to add a good variety to its offerings. The lottery has even experimented with higher ticket prices, enhancing traditional games, and has even introduced promotional games on a seasonal basis.
To date, the Florida lottery’s portfolio includes Powerball, Mega Millions, Jackpot Triple Play, Fantasy 5, Florida Lotto, Cash4Life, CASH POP, and a range of Pick 2, 3, 4, and 5 variants.
